As I reflect on three generations of women -- my grandmother, my mother and I--, our lives were marked by a century of big changes from the Japanese annexation of Korea at the turn of the century to the Korean War and then to a new life in America. Coming from a developing country steeped in Confucian values to the United States as a first generation immigrant baby boomer, the changes I have seen and experienced in my own lifetime -- I couldn’t have imagined!
“Nothing endures but change.” We have seen some major changes in our lives—both exciting and anxiety ridden. We are redefining how we work and live. We are redefining our retirement. The values I’ve learned from my family and the perspectives that I’ve gained from my own life journey helps to shape the financial guidance I provide to my clients during their times of change and emotional distress.
