I don’t have to tell you that a whole new definition of
retirement has surfaced in recent years. This generation of retirees and soon
to be retirees are making creative changes and rethinking retirement -- how we
think about retirement, how we feel about retirement, and the decisions and
choices we make about retirement. It’s a time to reconnect with your deep
interests and passions, make new discoveries, and face new challenges and new
opportunities.
It’s also a time of reflection on the decisions and choices
you’ll need to make about retirement. Am I on track for retirement?
Will I be able to afford the lifestyle I want? What does ‘retirement’ mean to
me? What does the future hold?
Take some time to imagine a day in your ideal retirement.
What would your life look like? Feel like? What activities would
you be engaged in? Where would you be doing these activities? Who
would you be spending your time with? Next, jot down some of your
financial, retirement, and life goals. As part of your goals, don’t
forget to add playfulness and something larger than just ourselves.
Be sure to add a fun goal, as well as an important and meaningful goal.
Then review your financial resources; take inventory of your
retirement funds, investments, assets, and liabilities. Your retirement
goals, financial decisions, investment strategy and your financial plan should
all be closely linked.
Chances are you may be both looking forward to and feeling
anxious about retirement. You may be caught up in a host of emotions,
questions, and uncertainties. I invite you to come in and discuss your
concerns, doubts, and thoughts. We’ll review the plans you have in place,
explore your ideas about retirement, and we’ll work together so that you’ll
gain more clarity about taking action and moving forward.
It is my sincere desire to see you thrive, live joyfully, and
move toward financial confidence.
